Energy Project

Museum Visit Activity 1 Visit the Avalanche, Inclined plane, Newton’s Cradle interactive exhibits and perform the following three tasks: 1.Draw the feature of the exhibit. Be as detailed as possible. (5 Points) 2.Label and explain where you would find the following vocabulary words: (x3) Energy Energy transfer Energy transformation Kinetic energy (KE) Potential energy (PE) or Gravitational potential energy (GPE) Force 3. Give any other energies that may exist in the exhibit and explain how.

Museum Visit Activity 2: Thermal Energy Playing with Balloons: Convection Data: Temp. of balloon at launch = Temp. of air in the room = Maximum height your balloon reached = 1.Why do you have to heat the air in the balloon for it to move upwards? 2.What would happen if there was a hole in the balloon? 3.Why does the balloon eventually fall back down? Playing with Fire: Heat as a Reactant 1.Draw and label a fire triangle with the three ingredients needed for a fire reaction. 2.What happens when….. Fuel is increased in the fire? Fuel is decreased in the fire? The mist spray is adjusted? 3. Sketch the movement of air molecules in the firebox.

Museum Visit Activity 3 Give your perspective on the “Animals Inside Out” exhibit. Does the exhibit heighten your sense of environmental awareness?

School Exploration Activity 1 Google an Avalanche, Inclined plane, and Newton’s Cradle (Pendulum) image and perform the following three tasks. 1.Draw the images. Be as detailed as possible. (5 Points) 2.In each image label and explain where you would find the following vocabulary words: (x3) Energy Energy transfer Energy transformation Kinetic energy (KE) Potential energy (PE) or Gravitational potential energy (GPE) Force 3. Give any other energies that may exist in the exhibit and explain how.

School Exploration Activity 2 Think of three everyday objects you have encountered like those you Googled in activity 1. Pretend you had to teach a first grader about energy in your community. Choose one object and create a visual that explains the concept of energy. Include each of the vocabulary words. Be creative!
