1 Product Lifecycle Management © 2003 IBM Corporation Pall simplifies design processes with CATIA V5  Customer Background Founded in 1946 in New York; now a multinational corporation employing 10,000 worldwide Experts in the design and manufacture of specialist filtration, separation and purification equipment for a broad range of industries  Business Challenges Provide cutting-edge design capability Simplify system management Enhance collaboration  Solution Implementation CATIA V5 (migration from V4 in January 2002) Generative Shape Design for hybrid modeling and Generative Shape Drafting and V4 integration Sheet Metal Design 2, Structural Analysis 2, Electrical Systems Definition 2, Systems Routing 2 and the STEP interface IBM BCS assisted with migration  Benefits of the Solution Windows platform saved costs on hardware and simplified system management Ability to work in both CATIA V4 and V5 allows Pall to share data seamlessly with customers Streamlines and simplifies product design Easier surfacing in V5 Catalog feature allows for parametised parts list Pre-design validation reduces laboratory testing PALL Corporation

2 Product Lifecycle Management © 2003 IBM Corporation Pall’s Portsmouth, UK design centre migrated 40 seats of CATIA V4 to CATIA V5, running on a Windows platform.  The Industry Pall Corporation specialises in the manufacture of specialty filtration products for a range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, food and beverage, medical and water treatment. The Portsmouth, UK site focuses on filtration down to 1 micron for the industrial, defence, aerospace and automotive markets.  The Challenge Pall needed to upgrade CATIA V4 to ensure its ability to collaborate fully with its customers, many of whom were using CATIA V5. Pall, however, sought a system that would run in a Windows platform in order to cut hardware costs and simplify system management.  The Solution The company’s Portsmouth, UK site upgraded 40 seats of CATIA V4 to V5 in January 2002. Pall utilizes the Generative Shape Design, Generative Shape Drafting, Sheet Metal Design 2, Structural Analysis 2, Electrical Systems Functional Definition 2, Systems Routing 2, and the STEP interface modules. IBM BCS (Business Consulting Services) has helped Pall with the migration from V4 to V5, providing training and support.  The Customer Benefits The ability to work with both CATIA V4 and V5 allows Pall to share design data seamlessly with its customers regardless of the CATIA version they are using. The development process has been streamlined through the use of Version 5’s feature-based design, cataloguing and surfacing capabilities. “The pre-design validation in CATIA reduces laboratory testing and allows us to get it right the first time.” – David Huggett, Engineering Director, Pall Machinery and Equipment, Portsmouth PALL Corporation

3 Product Lifecycle Management © 2003 IBM Corporation CATIA V5 simplifies design process and speeds development at Pall Corporation Specialized products require close design collaboration Pall Corporation designs and manufactures specialised filtration, separation and purification equipment for a broad range of industries. Its Portsmouth, UK site designs products for removing contaminants down to 1 micron in size for use in industrial, defence, aerospace and automotive applications. Designing custom filtration products requires close collaboration with Pall’s customers and with its own manufacturing sites across the globe. The Portsmouth site needed to upgrade its existing CATIA V4 system, but sought a solution that would save on hardware costs by functioning in a Windows environment and ease system management. In January 2002, the site migrated to CATIA V5. “We want to be cutting-edge with our design capability, so our intention is to expand CATIA V5’s use further into the Pall Corporation.” David Huggett, Engineering Director, Pall Machinery and Equipment, Portsmouth PALL Corporation
