2014 Summit Co-Convener:Founder: Significant Performance Gaps Failing to detect Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) Suboptimal neonatal oxygen targeting

2014 Summit Co-Convener:Founder: Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) #1 Birth defect everywhere 100,000 babies/yr in the US 4,000 infants/year with Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) in US 130,000 infants/year globally About 2,000 infants/year die or have missed diagnosis in US 65,000 globally

2014 Summit Co-Convener:Founder:

2014 Summit Co-Convener:Founder: Seminal Study Pre- & post-ductal pulse oximetry (Masimo SET ® ) measurements on 39,821 newborns in Sweden Physical exam alone identified 63% of babies with CCHD With pulse oximetry, CCHD detection increased to 83% No babies died of CCHD in pulse oximetry screening group 5 babies died of CCHD in a prospective cohort group Granelli AD, Wennergren M, et al. BMJ 2009; 338: A3037.

2014 Summit Co-Convener:Founder: CCHD Work Group Recommendations (2011) “Newborn screening should be done with “motion-tolerant pulse oximeters that report functional oxygen saturation, have been validated in low perfusion conditions” Kemper AR et al. Pediatrics 2011; (10.1542/peds.2011-1317 )
