1. S.P.A.C.E. (Special Programs for Academic and Creative Excellence) Ms. Stimpson The program is designed to enhance creativity and develop critical thinking skills.

2. SPACE Classes SPACE classes are designed to challenge students in areas different than the normal classroom. In SPACE classes this semester, students have written their own newsletter, designed a complete post nuclear society, and created a family tree. They have also studied propaganda and examined tolerance and intolerance in the media.

3. Yearbook Class The first semester students in this class had an opportunity to build the yearbook from the ground up. They chose the theme and layout for each page. They shot, chose, and assembled the photographs for each page. The whole yearbook is a student production. Yearbooks are on sale for $22.00.

4. Clusters Clusters are one of the ways Huntsville City serves its Gifted students. Students choose which cluster they want and sign up for them. Clusters last six to eight weeks and offer opportunities for exploration in areas not normally covered in the classroom.

5. Clusters provide an opportunity for exploration. In the Ancient Egyptian Cluster students have been mummifying chicken with salt and spices while they study ancient Egyptian customs and burial procedures. Students have learned to write their name in hieroglyphics. Students have been painting wall friezes and will soon make Paper Mache sarcophaguses’. The culminating activity for this Cluster will be a Mummy wrap using toilet paper with competing teams. While a weekly Cluster does not provide time to study everything, it does give a student the chance to explore a topic of interest.
