2 MONDAY: LESSON 24 This week we will be making a robot and placing it in an environment that we create for it. Our robot will be created from rectangles we make. TODAY we are planning the dimensions of each rectangle from given perimeters. You will need: Problem Set, Scratch Paper, Pencil

3 MONDAY: LESSON 24 For each part of our robot we have been given a perimeter for the rectangle, and we need to figure out the side lengths that we could use to create the rectangles. We will do the first one together, then you can figure out the remaining side lengths on your own. ARM: Perimeter = 14 cm 5 cm 2 cm 5 cm 2 cm 2 + 2 + 5 + 5 = 14 cm Width and Length = 2 cm x 5 cm

4 MONDAY: LESSON 24 For each part of our robot we have been given a perimeter for the rectangle, and we need to figure out side lengths that we need to use to create rectangles. 6 MONDAY: LESSON 24 Now work on finding the side lengths for the remaining parts of your robot. We will work individually for 15- 20 minutes, then I will have you trade problem sets with a partner to check our work.

7 TUESDAY: LESSON 25 Today we are going to create our robot! You will need: Problem Set from Monday One large piece 12 x 18 construction paper ¼ piece Orange construction paper ¼ piece Blue construction paper ½ piece Red construction paper ½ piece Black construction paper Pencil Scissors Glue Crayons or Markers to decorate the robot. We will pass these supplies out now. Please raise your hand if you are missing something!

8 TUESDAY: LESSON 25 Please fold your large piece of construction paper in half, then unfold it and assemble your robot on the RIGHT side. Use your problem set, ruler and pencil to draw the rectangular parts of your robot. Use the ruler to measure and draw the side lengths you decided on yesterday. Use the construction paper like this: Orange:Head Blue: Neck Red: Body Black: Arms & Legs Once you have you completed drawing the rectangles, raise your hand and I will check your measurements and give you the OK to cut out your robot and glue it on the paper. Then, you may use crayons or markers to decorate the ROBOT ONLY! We will be designing a background for it on Wednesday.

9 WEDNESDAY: LESSON 26 Today you are going to create an ENVIRONMENT for your robot. Remember, an environment is the surrounding in which something lives or operates, so BE CREATIVE!! Our Environment will be on the LEFT side of the construction paper we used on Tuesday. YOU WILL NEED FIRST: Sketch Paper THEN Large Construction Paper From Tuesday ½ Sheets Of Colored Construction Paper Ruler Scissors Glue Markers Or Crayons

10 WEDNESDAY: LESSON 26 On Your Sketch Paper Design An Environment That Includes At Least One Each Of The Following Polygons: TrapezoidRhombus ParallelogramSquare RectangleTriangle AND At your choice of one regular and one irregular of the following polygons: PentagonHexagon HeptagonOctagon AND At least one CIRCLE When you have completed your sketch, Raise your hand. If it looks good, I will give you construction paper to measure and cut out the shapes and create the environment you have designed.

11 THURSDAY: LESSON 27 Robot Museum! Today we will display our robots on our desks. I will give each robot a number. Your job is to evaluate at least two robots made by classmates. Please identify the robots you evaluate by their number! You will need: Problem Set Pencil Ruler Please display your robots on your desks now.

12 THURSDAY: LESSON 27 When I say “MIX!” you may move around the room. When I say “MATCH!” stop and evaluate the nearest robot. Measure the rectangles and decide whether this student did a good job of creating the right sized rectangles! Make a note or two because you are going to tell me why you like this robot and whether the student did a great job!

13 THURSDAY: LESSON 27 Now return to your seat and finish the last two problems.
