2 Providing an Integrated Point of View! 2 Methodology This survey was conducted by Harris Interactive via its National Quorum SM telephone omnibus service. Specifically, this study was conducted: –By telephone within the United States –Between December 16 and 20, 2009 –Among a nationwide cross section of 1,020 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, race, and region were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. –Respondents were not given incentives to participate in survey Results are provided for the overall sample and by census region. The results for the overall sample have a sampling error of +/-3 percentage points at a 95 percent certainty.

Respondents in the Northeast tend to have theirs inspected more than once a year, potentially due to colder climates. Thirty-eight percent say they don’t even have a carbon monoxide detector (Nationwide believes this percentage could be higher because some people don’t want to admit they don’t own carbon monoxide detectors).
