Bishop Ussher – 1650 AD  Bishop Ussher was born in Ireland  Bishop Ussher was a leading theologian in his time  Bishop Ussher calculated incorrectly that the creation of man occurred on October 23 rd, 4004 BC.  Bishop Ussher based his calculations on a single day and did not consider that perhaps generations might have been skipped that are listed in the Bible  Over time Ussher’s dates were put into Bibles and these dates often were accepted

What does the Bible say about the Bible?  “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” –Psalm 19:7  “For the Word of God is quick (alive) and powerful (like dynamite), sharper than any two- edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” –Hebrews 4:12

What does the Bible say about the Bible?  “And that from childhood you have know the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” –2 Timothy 3:15-16

What does the Bible say about studying the Bible?  “Thy word have I hid (memorized) in my heart (mind) that I might not sin against Thee.” –Psalm 119:11 –Psalm 119 is the middle chapter of the Old Testament –Each section starts with the letters of the Hebrew Alphabet –In Dallas Public Schools in the 1940s, Bible verses starting with the first letter of the English alphabet were taught  “They word is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path.” –Psalm 119:105 –If we memorize Scripture we will be guided in life’s journeys
