Radio Frequency Identification  RFID System A wireless, non contact system that uses data from a tag for the purpose of tracking or identification.  To put in terms of use in stores… You can avoid the hassle of standing in long lines!

How it works One or multiple transponders Usually one on the product and maybe around the store And a reader Can be as simple as a card that reads the information and puts it elsewhere Antenna’s are in each These send radio frequency waves to one another to track shoppers as well as products

How stores can use this technology  Stores can put chips in their merchandise in order to: Allow consumers to purchase products with out going to check out lines Have all of the information of their purchase charged straight to a credit/debit card

Inventory use  Use in the inventory Increased accuracy Can scan a whole warehouse and find out the current amount  Less time in inventory management leads to… More productivity More time and energy

RFID in shopping behavior  Cost effective when compared to research  More accurate POS (point of sales) analysis  With RFID it can track when items are present and taken This information can be compared to promotions, advertisements, etc.

Business Benefits  Allows E Commerce Marketing  Easier inventory tracking  Time efficient  Cost efficient  Improves supply chain efficiency

 No need for scanner  Less human intervention  Multiple tags can be identified simultaneously  Longer life span  Data capabilities are better

Intelligence Cart  Can order selections through the touch screen on the cart Also has recipes in tact  Takes into account price, promotions, and what is needed  No need to check out Just confirm on the panel and it will be charged to your card

 EZ pass uses RFID technology as well  EZ pass allows you to avoid paying tolls with currency This could take place in stores Avoid waiting in long lines and purchase goes from transponder to reader Think of EZ Pass…

Wal Mart Example  Wal-Mart is one of the leading stores promoting RFID  Mostly on the pallet level Used to keep inventory Takes into account the product life, from the warehouse, to the shelf  This has influenced other stores to use the technology Giving out loyalty cards as readers  IBM’s RFID chip in stores IBM’s

Conclusion  The one con…Privacy This can be avoidable with effort on the customers behalf  Overall… The pros significantly out way the cons Cost efficient, fits the new tech savvy shopper Less human interaction, no lines No exchange of physical currency Improves keeping track of inventory Other business benefits, etc.
