1 The Odyssey By Homer (The Bard)

2 Homer Homer – Great Greek poet, possibly blind, The Iliad and The Odyssey are credited to him. It is believed that he lived in the 7th or 8th century B.C. He had a massive influence on the history of literature.

3 The Iliad The Iliad is an epic about the Trojan War. Odysseus fought in the war, which lasted for 10 years. The Odyssey begins as Odysseus leaves for home. It is still debated if the Trojan War was a historical event or not.

4 Helen of Troy The Trojan war was the result of a beauty contest between Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite. Paris (Prince of Troy) was the judge. Each goddess tried to bribe him, but he chose Aphrodite. He was rewarded with Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world. Unfortunately, Helen was already married to Menelaus. Therefore, Agamemnon (King of Mycenae and brother of Menelaus) sent troops to attack the city of Troy and retrieve Helen. After 10 years they finally defeated the Trojans using the Trojan Horse trick.

5 Odysseus wife and newborn son to fight in the Trojan
Greek King of Ithaca, Odysseus left his wife and newborn son to fight in the Trojan war. Initially, he tried to avoid going to the war, but he ended up playing an important role. He was also known by the Roman name Ulysseus. Keep in mind that Greece was divided into many city-states at the time. Therefore, there were many Kings within the country.
