10 Follow the money Understand the politics and the history Use the right approach for the right audiences! (Over and over and over) Use relationships, but carefully Perseverance is an art Adapt to local conditions – there is no “perfect” implementation

11 Build a strong site team Ensure the effort is adequately supported and staffed Provide avenues for regular communication and honest assessments of what’s happening Understand the context and build plans collaboratively within it The first year is always a learning year – be prepared for this Learn the lessons!

14 WHAT WE LEARNED WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE  Every piece of the Diplomas Now partnership needs INTEGRATION into the school program.  Consistent Communication  Students and Parents see Diplomas Now as support staff in the School not a separate program  Teachers and Staff view Diplomas Now as support partners in a school.  Communication with school leadership at least weekly

15  The Partnership needs to integrate and communicate with the school system. This includes understanding the depth of operational and instructional policy of such a large district. Also includes understanding the intricacies of each diverse school.
