Stop Lecturing… Start Screencasting! Changing your classroom to meet the needs of 21 st Century Learners

What’s a Screencast? A screencast is combining pictures, demonstrations, drawings, narration and text on a screen (your computer or iPad) to create a video. Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com

Screencasts sit between static graphics and having an expert close at hand. We get a visual, moving demo with a friendly voice, we can also have text annotations on screen and animations. An advantage of screencasts over an expert is that they can be replayed at will every hour of every day. 9 Getting Started Identify the purpose of your screencast. Identify your audience. Storyboard or pre-write your lesson. This is a must!!! Clear your desktop of anything that could be distracting. Mute your cell phone. (live and learn) Cue up all websites, PPTs etc. to be used in video. Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com

Recording Your Lesson Give your lesson in short chunks. Determine if you need transition slides. Recording an opening slide is a nice touch. Read through your script a few times before you record. Speak slowly and clearly. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes….and leave them in your video! Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com

There’s An App For That! Screencasting With iPads Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com

Explain Everything Just the Facts $2.99 App only Record Embed Video, audio, photos, drawings and text Multiple share Multiple app connections (dropbox, box, google docs) Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com One of the best features of Explain Everything is that it is connected. Users can seamlessly navigate between many integrated cloud apps, including Evernote, Google Drive and Dropbox. It’s also easy to connect to other areas of the iPad to access stored items such as videos, pictures and music. Explain Everything supports a variety of export formats includingMP4/Mov, PDF and more. Upload completed projects to YouTube or publish the files as iBooks.

Explain Everything Tutorial Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com

Explain Everything Uses Image / Poster / Graphic / Diagram Creator: With the built in free hand cutout feature, the ability to import pictures from the iPad camera roll as well as any cloud platform that you have connected to the app, any image can be imported into a blank slide as part of a creation. With the small i tool in the left hand menu, images can be layered, locked in place, duplicated and sent to the background, allowing the creator to layer images to create a polished product. Once complete, there is an option to export the final product as either an image file or PDF via email, to the camera roll or to any cloud based platform. Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com http://kulowiectech.blogspot.com/2013/06/explain- everything-x-4-ways.html

Explain Everything Brainstorming Platform: One of the most underutilized features in Explain Everything is the magnifying glass tool in the left hand menu. Use this tool with a two finger pinching gesture to zoom out of your Explain Everything canvas. With a combination zooming, free hand drawing, typing and inserting images, users can easily create huge mind maps within the app. For exporting, users can again choose from image or PDF options. Keep in mind that the farther out one zooms when creating, the harder it will be to view the final product when it is exported. Contact Information: reillya@usd308.com @jamyreilly facebook.com/308tech http://usd308tech.weebly.com

Explain Everything Uses As an Interactive White Board: With a combination of Explain Everything AirServer, Reflector or Splashtop that is running on a MacBook or PC Laptop, Explain Everything becomes a blank canvas that can be manipulated anywhere in the classroom. Math and science teachers can use the blank screen to solve equations and demonstration problem solving. By using the magnifying glass zooming feature in the app, teachers can begin solving equations on the app & zoom out to create more space and continue the process in another section of the blank canvas.
