How would we take care of a golf course? By: James and Chase 9 th grade. May 5

Location/Original Characteristics Flandreau SD, Country Club South eastern south dakota, midwest Average temps, rainfall As is acres, by a river, pictures description

Soil Charicteristics The soil characteristics are as follows –Moderately coarse –7.7 pH – 45 inch deep soil depth –The area is mostly flat –Nitrogen – 47 pounds/acre Potassium- 194 pounds/acre Phosphorus- 22 pounds/acre

Seeds to plant I would use Pennington Kentucky 31 brand seed because… –Traits –Toughness/hardiness –Adaptability –$73.42/50 pounds in stock at (lowes)

Ground preparation I would have to rake the sticks because of the excess trees around the golf course. You would have to mow the rough and the fairways and the greens, and the t-boxes. Fertilizer to make the grass grow better. Raking of the sand traps Changing location of holes on the greens.

The mowing is done anywhere from 1”-2” depending on the grass conditions. A special tool is used to used to change the holes on the greens then they are moved to make changes in the course so its not so monotonous. You rake the sandtrap so there is no sticks and random objects so golf balls don’t get interfered with.

Maintenance I would have to –Mow varies, 1 ½ inches 2 inches fairways –Fertilize ounce a year, grass –Fix divets (plant grass seed mix with fertilizer) –Pick up trash daily

Fertilizer I would use scotts turfbuilder lawn pro with winterguard. It protects and strengthens for a better spring

Irrigation Automatic irrigation already in use Remote activated Water when it started to need it in cooler temp or at night because of less water loss due to evaporation. Irrigation when needed.

Conclusion Turf grass is a huge part of a golf course, the grass and ground preperation and looks are what makes a golf course a good one. Many things play into the making of good turf grass including fertilizer irrigation how it is cut and maintained.
