2. The Underground Railroad led to many different states, and countries. The most successful/safe trip was to Canada. Canada was a slave free country and once a slave crossed the border they were considered free. Although many people did not know, many slaves chose to take a route going to Mexico. Even though this route was more dangerous, it was a shorter journey and the living conditions were much more tolerable.

3. Harriet Tubman Harriet Tubman was the most famous conductor on the Underground railroad. Harriet Tubman was an amazing woman but yet created problems for slaves on the Underground Railroad. Harriet was always being searched for which led to slaves being put in high danger situations. Harriet had a total of 6 pieces of clothing that she would take with her on the journey.

4. Death Rates on the Journey The death rates on the Underground Railroad were the most amazing fact of the entire era. About 120 slaves were killed when found running away, and about 50,000 escaped unharmed. By the end of slavery almost 100,000 slaves had escaped and about 120 were killed. No one knows if any slaves known died on the journey there.

5. Safe Houses On any given journey there would be up to 10 safe houses where slaves would hide for one or two nights. People that owned safe houses would be killed if they were found. Now safe houses sell to the government museum for over 1 million dollars. Many safe houses could only store a certain amount of people so the owners would allow the slaves to sleep in their rooms.

6. Time periods The Underground Railroad ran from 1850- 1860. In 1856 it was recorded that the most slaves escaped from their plantations.

7. Wrap up The Underground Railroad is unquestionably one of the most important aspects of the history of. The underground Railroad proved the point that no slavery. was afraid and that abolitionists were willing to risk their lives to help slaves escape, and that many slaves were willing to risk their loves to be free.
