13 Perttunen & Palovaara 2008 Nursing in different health care settings Perioperative and day surgery nursing 1,5ects: Objectives The students will be familiarized with perioperative (surgery and anaesthetic nursing), day surgery nursing, central nursing interventions, and the implementation of aseptics. The students will be familiarized with the central methods and devices used in perioperative nursing, and their use. The students will internalise the basics of pain treatment and the methods used in it. They will understand the importance of the encounter, guidance, and support of surgery patients, as well as the significance of multi-professional work in the holistic treatment of patients. 15 Perttunen & Palovaara 2008 Objectives for theoretical studies able to plan, implement and assess the holistic and empowering care of the perioperative patient. able to take care of a patient in anesthesia or local anesthesia, and to prepare for changes in the condition of the patient. observation of vital functions, rapid action in accordance with the situation, utilizing nursing interventions, medical treatment, technology, and multiprofessional work groups. able to encounter the perioperative patient individually. master basic technology, aseptics and the helping methods of perioperative nursing, and can, when guided, nurse the perioperative patient. work with the operational principles of patient safety and high professional ethics.
