1 Know about the provision of exercise for specific groups P1 describe the provision of exercise for three different specific groups. M1 compare and contrast the provision of exercise for three different specific groups, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. D1 analyse the provision of exercise for three different specific groups providing recommendations relating to identified areas for improvement, and the benefits to specific groups.

Types of provision for specific groups

Public sector This sector provides services to local people.
The public sector operates at different levels. Facilities provided by local authorities are for local people. Public sector organisations are funded by local authorities or central government.

Private sector The private sector is made up of organisations that aim to make a profit for themselves or other people. These include private clubs providing facilities and services for the benefit of members. This sector is growing due to the promotion of healthy living Facilities in the private sector are usually state of the art and are high quality. This sector is driven by profit and can be expensive.

Voluntary sector The voluntary sector generally consists of local people and organisations that provide activities for the benefit of local people, and to meet a local need. Often these people have common interests and ability levels, or have similar values regarding the sport or physical activity. The voluntary sector plays a vital role in providing sporting opportunities for all age groups in a variety of sports. These are non-profit organisations

Partnerships This refers to joint ventures between two or more of the sectors (private, public and voluntary sectors). An example of a dual-use organisation is a school sports centre which, after school hours, opens up to the public for general usage Disability sports Wales providing grant money to local clubs, eg. Llandudno ski slope (free skiing for disable)

TASK Create a table listing each of the sectors talked about.
For each sector think of as many types of provision as you can for specific groups. Public sector Private sector Voluntary sector Joint and Dual use Llandudno leisure centre Le Sport health club Llandudno disabled football club Llandudno ski slope

Task Select a specific group and research the type of provision for that group in your area. Consider: facilities, classes, equipment, range of activities. Create a fact sheet on this group which you are to present to the class.
