2 Christopher Andrew Hoy Was born 23 March 1976 in Edinburgh Hoy went to school at George Watson's College In 1996 Continued his studies at the University of St Andrews 1999 graduated Moray House at the University of Edinburgh with a Bsc in sports science In July 2005 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh and another from Heriot-Watt University in November 2005

3 Hoy was inspired to cycle at the age six by the film E.T the Extra-Terrestrial Between the ages 7 and 14 Chris raced BMX. He was Scottish Champion, British No 2, European No 5 and World No 9 He also rowed and played rugby at George Watson’s College. He rowed for Scotland and won a British Championship silver in the Junior Coxless Pairs Entering the world of cycling

4 In 1992 Chris joined his first cycling club, Dunedin CC, run by Ray and Doreen Harris. 1994 joined The City of Edinburgh Racing Club, the most successful track club in Britain. Hoy at the 2008 World Championships in Manchester.

5 Hoy`s main events The Kilo- 1km Time Trial Team Sprint- involves three riders The Keirin (the event that replaced the Kilo on the Olympic programme) The Sprint

6 Honours 2005 he became a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to cycling. On 26 November 2008, Hoy was named as Sportsman of the Year by the Sports Journalists' Association of Great Britain On 14 December 2008, Hoy was also named as BBC Sports Personality of the Year In the 2009 New Year`s Honours list, Chris was awarded a knighthood. 7 Olympics 2008 At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Hoy became Scotland`s most successful Olympian Beijing 2008

8 He was the first Briton in 100 years to claim three gold medals in a single Olympic Games Chris became the most successful Olympic male cyclist of all time For winning the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Hoy will be an ambassador for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London
