2. Step One: Brainstorming On your paper, do the following: 1. List your interests. What are some things you enjoy spending time doing after school? What are your favorite classes in school? 2. List your skills. What types of things are you good at? What types of things do you learn quickly? 3. List any jobs or careers you are currently interested in doing later in life. If you aren’t sure, try to come up with at least one or two that you could research more about.

3. Step Two: Career Test (Personality) Go to http://www.careertest.net/ and take the free career test. This test will ask you various questions about you, including personality, likes, and dislikes. Answer as truthfully as possible: there are no “correct” answers. Think carefully about your answers.http://www.careertest.net/ After you finish the test, the site will tell you your personality type, based on your answers. Then, it will suggest types of careers for your personality type. On your paper: write your personality type and 2-3 possible careers based on your personality type.

4. Step Three: Career Test (Skill) Go to http://www.whatcareerisrightforme.com/index.php to take the free career test. Unlike the last one, this one is based on skills and interests, not your personality type. http://www.whatcareerisrightforme.com/index.php After you receive your results, study the list of the possible job options given to you, based on your answers. On your paper: write down 2-3 of the career possibilities given to you that look the most interesting or promising. Also, tell if there were any careers mentioned on both of your career tests.

5. Step Four: Research Careers Go to http://www.bls.gov/ooh/. On this site, you will be able to explore different careers to learn:http://www.bls.gov/ooh/ Job description Median (average) pay Education/training required “Job Outlook”: this explains how many more jobs in this field are expected to come up within the next few years. Some jobs will have more openings as time goes on, and others will have a decrease in demand. Etc. [see next slide for directions]

6. Step Four: Research Careers 1. Based on your career test results and your own personal interests, research at least 4 careers in which you are interested. Use the list on the right hand side to search by job category OR use the search bar to type in the job title. Read about each one carefully. 2. On your paper: Fill out the chart for each career, including: 1. Skills needed2. Education/training needed 3. Median salary4. Job Outlook percentage

7. Step Five: Career Expo Prep Now that you have research some possible career options for you, it’s time to decide how you will use today’s career expo field trip to your advantage. Using the 4 careers you researched, try to find out if any or all of these careers (or something related) will be at the career expo today. Use your career expo booklet. On your paper: write down 2-3 careers you would like to gather more information about at the career expo later today.
