1 Changing the World One Stanley At a Time Presented by: Williams High School PALs

2 Introduction Changing the World One Stanley at a Time originated at Williams High School in Plano, Texas. PALs (Peer Assistance Leadership) students at the school wanted to do what they could to work with the elementary and middle schools in their area to inspire their younger peers to join them in making a difference and in turn, produce a ripple effect of kindness. And it worked! So far, many big-hearted students at Williams, along with those at various elementary schools have joined. Word spread. Soon schools across the United States from California to New York, and internationally in places like Puerto Rico, China, Spain, and France raised their hands to become difference makers in this Flat Stanley making a difference crusade!

12 October – November Calendar As classes at our feeder schools are getting their Flat Stanleys ready to swap, for October, we are going to have our own Flat Stanleys perform 2 acts of kindness during the timeframe of 10/15 – 25. Any acts of kindness that you want posted, send to Chris Coats at chris.coats@pisd.edu and she will post them on the www.onestanleyatatime website. Soon, designated teachers and counselors at schools will be able to post items on their own!chris.coats@pisd.edu www.onestanleyatatime

13 November Calendar! We will swap our Flat Stanleys on Monday, October 28 for the month of November. Chris Coats will let each school know who they are swapping with, the teacher, class and grade level. You will send your Flat Stanleys addressed to that teacher in a giant envelope via interoffice mail. Once you get your swapped Stanley – let the kindness begin! Teachers will make copies of the Flat Stanley Journal to give to their students to chronicle their making a difference adventures. The challenge (based on teacher’s choice) is for each student to perform 2 – 4 acts of kindness during a 3 week period. Stanleys will be mailed the week of November 18 via interoffice mail back to the originating school and class. The last week of November, students will be challenged to perform acts of kindness with their own Stanley the week of Thanksgiving performing at least 1 that week.
