William Shakespeare William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1567 in Stratford-upon- Avon
William was born on Henley Street. His mother Mary was a daughter of a farmer and his father John was a glove-maker.
While still a teenager, William married Anne Hathaway. She was 26, William was 18.
Later, his 3 children were born: Susannah, the eldest, then twins- Hamnet and Judith.
In 1587 Shakespeare went to work in London, leaving Anne and the children at home. In London William began to write plays and to act and soon he became an important member of a well- known acting company. Most of his plays were performed in the Globe Theatre.
In 1613 he stopped writing and went back to Stratford. He died in 1616, April 23 (on his birthday).
Additional information William Shakespeare was buried in The Holy Trinity Church. There is a bronze statue of Shakespeare in Stratford. It was presented by Lord Ronald Sutterland Gower in 1888. Around the statue are his characters (statues, of course ): Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Othello, King Lear, etc.
