2. ABOUT THE LOUVRE  The museum opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings.  The collection was increased under Napoleon Bonaparte.  Over 20,000 paintings were added during the second French Empire.

3. FAMOUS PAINTINGS  One of the most famous paintings in the Louvre is the Mona Lisa painted by the artist, Leonardo Da Vinci.  Another famous painting located in the Louvre is the Venus De Milo, sculpted by Alexandros of Antioch.

4. THE LOUVRE TODAY  The Louvre had more than 9.7 million people visit it in the year 2012.  The Louvre is one of the most well known museums in the world.

5. REFLECTION Overall the Louvre is a very old and popular museum that is very well known around the world, along with having some of the most well known art works in the world such as the Mona Lisa.
