Paragraph 1 Intro/Thesis State the title and author, and then describe the story. Discuss the main character and what he/she experiences.
Paragraph 2/Setting State the setting of the book. Finish the paragraph by telling –When – example; year, period of time, season, etc. –Where –Sensory images (smell, sounds, sights)
Paragraph 3 Main Character Pre-write---complete a character web. This will turned in with the report. In the first sentence, name the main character(s) and use the personality traits from your character web. Finish the paragraph with a description of the character. Use your character web.
Paragraph 4 Plot The first sentence will have three parts: 1.Identify the book 2.Select a verb (refer to your verb list) 3.Finish the thought
Continued plot You will pre-write the plot. This will be turned in. Write your summary. Follow your list of main events, and write good, clear sentences. Summaries do not need a full conclusion…just follow your list of events. USE TRANSITION WORDS.
Paragraph 5/ Funny or interesting part Identify a part of the story that was funny, wonderful, interesting, sad, mysterious, or suspenseful to you. Explain the details of this part of the story. It may be helpful to do this part orally at first. Have someone listen as you describe the event, then write the rough draft.
Paragraph 6/Author Technique In the first sentence, name the author and one technique use in the book. Refer to “The Author’s Technique” sheet. Give two examples of this technique from the book. End your paragraph with a statement about how this technique adds to the story.
Paragraph 7/Conclusion/your opinion In the first sentence, state your opinion. Describe your thoughts about the book. If you are saying something negative, say it in an appropriate way. Give a solid reason to support your views. To whom would you recommend this book? Why?
