Pronunciation WALT – improve our Spanish pronunciation I can recognise sound patterns and apply them to words I know - all I can recognise sound patterns and use them to say words I do not know – most I can sound more Spanish than English! - some

How can we improve our Spanish accent? 1Practise the vowel sounds: a, e, i, o, u El burro sabe más que tú (The donkey knows more than you) Practise saying this moving your mouth as much as possible. Pretend that someone a long way away is trying to lip read!

How can we improve our Spanish accent? 2Practise the sounds for r and rr The double r and the single r at the start of a word trill or roll. (rrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!) Try saying these words: Carro, rancho (the r’s in each word should have the same sound) You may have to practise this a lot before you can do it. Keep on trying and don’t give up!

How can we improve our Spanish accent? 4Practise the d between vowels or at the end of a word. It sounds more like a ‘th’ sound than an English d. It is a lot softer sounding than our strong d. Try saying: Nada Limonada Edad Comida Ciudad Madrid

C, z, j, g, ll 6Think about the sounds of these letters in Spanish Find 2 examples for words that use these letters in Spanish. You should end up with 10 words. In pairs work out what the sounds should be. Are the sounds always the same for each letter? If they change, then can you identify any patterns? Report back to the class. Extension Are there any other sounds in Spanish that we have not covered?
