2. W HO WAS HENRI MATISSE ? French artist Was a Fauvist - meaning that they used expressive color (used color to show meaning). He was a painter for much of his career, until his aging body caused him the loss of his legs. This created his famous abstract cutouts, which he is most famous for. Always pursued expressive color Studied under many artist, including Piccaso during his visit to Spain. They became life long friends. Matisse painted and drew from nature. Picasso painted from imagination. That you see in much of Matisse’s later works.

They became more abstract (another influence from Picasso and the changing times) He understood how elements worked together and how colors and shapes could come to life in space.
