1 How has the puffin adapted to its environment?
Picture of puffins on top of their habitats.

2 Land The puffins use their sharp claws to dig their burrows. Sometimes the puffins steal the rabbits burrows and live in them instead of their own burrow. The puffins lay their eggs on rocky cliffs. Puffins have got little black toe nails to dig burrows. Picture of puffins on land

3 Food The average of fish in the puffins mouth should
be twelve. The puffins have a large bill to carry the food for their young. Puffins have a rough tongue to carry all the food. Tough beak made from keratin to catch fish really easily. Puffins are excellent divers and swimmers which enables them to catch food easier.

4 Sea The puffins use their webbed feet to steer and paddle along and underwater. Puffins dive really deep to get the food for their young. The puffins fly underwater as much as they do in the sky. The puffins spend more time at sea than anywhere else.

5 Environment The puffins have thick layer of fat to keep them warm from the cold weather. The black on the back of the puffin absorbs heat to keep them warm. The puffins beaks change colours during breeding seasons. The temperature in Burhou island is cold in summer months. The puffins are rarely seen on shore unless it is the breeding season, therefore they must float or fly on the water for the rest of the year. Picture of puffins with a rabbit

6 Sky Puffins fly in the sky at 55 miles per hour. Puffins have a large wingspan to support them in the air. The rest of the year the puffins are usually flying or floating on the water. The puffins fly in the air for about 20 minutes and then they come back down to the ground.
