2 Objectives Update a previously saved baseline plan. Record actual work for tasks and assignments. Record actual work by time period. Interrupt work on a task, and reschedule the remaining work.

3 Introduction Variance: The difference between what you intended to happen and what actually happened Early detection of variance. Microsoft Project 2013 also supports more detailed ways of tracking. Track task-level and assignment-level work totals and work per time period.

4 Why Tracking Are tasks starting and finishing as planned not, what will be the impact on the project’s finish date Are resources spending more or less time than planned to complete tasks? Is it taking more or less money than planned to complete tasks?

5 Setting a baseline On the Project tab, in the Schedule group, click Set Baseline, and then click Set Baseline and click OK. On the Task tab, in the View group click the down arrow below Gantt Chart, and then click Task Sheet. On the View tab, in the Data group, click Tables and click on “Variance” *The zeros indicated that no work actually has started.

6 Marking the completion (Auto) On the Project tab, in the Status group, click Update Project. Make sure the Update work as complete through option is selected. In the adjacent date box. Click OK

7 In the Task Name column, select the name of task 5. On the Task tab, in the Schedule group, click 100% Complete. In the Task Name column, select the name of task 6, holding down the Ctrl key, select the name of task 8 On the Task tab, in the Schedule group, click 100% Complete. Marking the completion (Individually)

8 Entering Actual values (Start & Finish) On the View tab, in the Data group, click Tables and then click Work. In the Actual field of a task type or select 24, and press Enter. Select other task and On the Task tab, in the Schedule group, click the down arrow to the right of the Mark on Track button, and then click Update Tasks. In the Start field in the Actual group on the left side of the dialog box, type or select another date. In the Actual dur field, type or select 7d. Similarly update other tasks and their values.

9 Track actual and remaining values On the View tab, in the Task Views group, click Task Usage. In the Task Name column, click the name of task On the Task tab, in the Editing group, click Scroll to Task. ◦Next, you’ll switch the table and details shown in the view On the View tab, in the Data group, click Tables and then click Work. On the Format tab, in the Details group, click Actual Work. In the Actual column for a task type or click 92h, and then press the Enter key.

10 Rescheduling Incomplete tasks On the View tab, in the Task Views group, click the down arrow below the Gantt Chart button, and then click Gantt Chart. Scroll the Gantt Chart view up so a task appears near the top of the view. Select a task which is incomplete On the Project tab, in the Status group, click Update Project. Select the Reschedule uncompleted work to start after option, and in the text box, type or select 8/4/15. Click OK to close the Update Project dialog box.
