4 Government Israel is a Parliamentary Democracy Israel has no formal constitution, but some of the functions of a constitution are filled by the Declaration of Establishment (1948), the Basic Laws of the parliament (Knesset), and the Israeli citizenship law President = President Shimon Peres Prime Minister = Binyamin Netanyahu

5 History and Current Events Israel gained independence from the British and became its own country on May 14, 1948 On June 5, 1967, Israel attacked Egypt and destroyed almost its whole air force while it was still grounded. This was part of a quest to gain more land, which Israel did. By the end of all of their attacks on other countries, Israel nearly doubled the amount of land it controlled

6 Economy Industries in Israel include: high-technology projects (aviation, communications, computer-aided design and manufactures, medical electronics, fiber optics), wood and paper production, potash and phosphates, food, beverages, tobacco, caustic soda, cement, construction, metal products, chemical products, plastics, diamond cutting, textiles, and footwear

7 Culture The most widely practiced religion in Israel is Judaism, which 82% of Israel’s people practice Out of the other 18%, the majority of them are Muslim Arabs There is also a small number of Christians who live in Israel
