2 This instructional module/training plan snapshot provides a brief description of the course “Basic Emergency Medical Technician.” It will cover performance-based objective and content-based instructional strategy. The snapshot will end with the formative assessment.

3 o This course is located in a classroom community college. Secondary workplace setting. o Utilizing a synchronous learning environment. o Maximum number of 30 students. At least 18 years old No prior medical experience Current CPR certification Culturally diversified Read, write, and communicate in English o Time frame is a 24 week period of 4 hours, 3 days/week (12 hours/week)

4 Emergency Medical Technician students will learn how to care for patients at the scene of an accident, sudden illness, and while transporting patients by ambulance.

5 o Each student will demonstrate, understand and learn to role of an EMT. o Each student will be able to properly: Use emergency medical equipment Access patients in emergency/trauma situations operate an ambulance Demonstrate patient/self safety techniques

6 The content based instructional strategy will be utilizing the classroom for effective questioning, demonstration, critical thinking, individual, and collaborative. Effective questioning will generate discussions. Demonstrations will generate understanding and learning. Critical thinking will be used to gather information used in problem solving. Individual learning will be in the form of self practical scenarios. Collaborative learning will be in the form of teams practical scenarios.

7 o Peer/Self Assessment o Questioning o Discussions o Kinesthetic Assessments

8 The instructional module/training plan for the “Basic Emergency Medical Technician” course implemented will give graduating EMT’s the knowledge needed to effectively and proficiently perform their job in any emergency situation.
