4 PLOT This book is about a 12 year-old boy named Jackson Opus, he goes by Jax. Jax is a Mind-bender!!! In other words, a hypnotist. Because he is a hypnotist, he gets accepted into a mind-bending academy, called Sentia. It is for mind-benders all over the world to practice their powers for good… Or at least that’s what Jax thinks. He doesn’t know if he is using his powers for , or for . You’ll have to read to find out. KEY: = good =bad

7 THEME The theme, or, moral of the story is just because you get a big opportunity, doesn’t always mean that it’s the best decision to accept it. In this case, Jax gets an opportunity to go to Sentia. That’s a big deal! The teacher is practically a celebrity! But, he later learns the hard way that he didn’t make the best decision. You’ll have to read to find out.

8 FUN FACT! Hypnotism uses many different tools. Some hypnotists, like Jax, use their eyes to hypnotize. Other hypnotists that don’t use their eyes, use watches that they swing right to left, as they speak to the subject. This is the most common method to use. Other hypnotists use pendulums, clocks, or even kinetic balls, pictured below. Hypnotism is possible, but hard to master. Real hypnotists hypnotize people to jump up & down, run like a pack of wolves are chasing them, or even jump off of a bridge into water!

9 GENRE The genre of this book is an adventure! It is adventure because from the beginning, Jax tries to figure out his ability of mind-bending and who is trying to get him to use his powers for good or bad. Will he turn to the famous Dr. Mako, or turn to a sandman whom he met at a pizzeria, Axel Braintree? You’ll have to read the WHOLE book to find out.
