We have been studying the Chesapeake Bay in science. We have been learning about what natural resources are and that they are limited. Now, let’s think about how this information affects you! How can you help to extend the natural resources of the environment? Today you will specifically research and answer - how can you help conserve water? 1111 2222 3333 6666 5555 4444 Next These materials are © 2011, Allison Lundell, West Towson Elementary, all rights reserved.

Research using the following web sites below. You will need to find at least 4 ways you can help conserve water! Water Sense for Kids Tip Tank (Don’t forget to read the tips in the corner as you play!) Ways to conserve water 1111 2222 3333 6666 5555 4444 Next These materials are © 2011, Allison Lundell, West Towson Elementary, all rights reserved.

You need to read through the websites to find information about how to conserve water! You will need to find at least 4 ways to conserve water. Using Kidspiration create a web (like the one on this page) to note the 4 ways you find to conserve water. Remember to save the web in your shared folder and to print a copy to the 2 nd floor printer! 1111 2222 3333 6666 5555 4444 Next These materials are © 2011, Allison Lundell, West Towson Elementary, all rights reserved. Ways to Conserve Water

Using the online cartoon tool, create a cartoon to show what you’ve learned today. In your cartoon, the main character needs to demonstrate at least 3 ways he/she can help conserve water!online cartoon tool Remember to print to the 2 nd floor printer when you are finished. 1111 2222 3333 6666 5555 4444 Next These materials are © 2011, Allison Lundell, West Towson Elementary, all rights reserved.

Using Water Sense, test your water conservation knowledge by playing an online game!Water Sense Using Pixie, create a ‘Water Waster’ character. This character should demonstrate ways people waste water. Write a paragraph describing their water wasting behavior and how they could fix it in your ‘S’ journal. You can print this Water Use Table to take home and track your family’s water usage.Water Use Table 1111 2222 3333 6666 5555 4444 Next These materials are © 2011, Allison Lundell, West Towson Elementary, all rights reserved.

Objective: Today we will find 4 ways to conserve water in order to show how we can extend the natural resources of the Chesapeake Bay. Differentiation: Some students may need the web created for them in Kidspiration in order to take notes successfully. Other students may be more successful taking notes by hand on paper instead of using Kidspiration. For students who need less information to process, the Water Sense website will allow the students to find at least 4 methods in an easy to read/chunked format. You may pull a small group to go through the slides together, to ensure you can provide extra support and guidance through the process. For students who excel with an extra challenge, encourage them to complete the second Extension activity. Time Management: This activity should take approximately an hour from beginning to end. I would observe the students to ensure they are moving on to Slide 4 about 30 minutes into the lesson. Students will need encouragement to proceed efficiently through the cartoon process, as some students get unnecessarily caught up in the details of their creation. VSC Indicator and Objective: Standard 6.0 Environmental Science Students will use scientific skills and processes to explain the interactions of environmental factors (living and non-living) and analyze their impact from a local to a global perspective. 1111 2222 3333 6666 5555 4444 These materials are © 2011, Allison Lundell, West Towson Elementary, all rights reserved.
