Regional Technical Forum July 1st, 2008 Presented by Ryan Fedie and Jamie Anthony Portland Energy Conservation, Inc.

Update Summary  Shaded Pole to Permanent Split Capacitor motor: –BTU conversion included in fan heat equation –Added slide showing percent of motors which are PSC  Linear fluorescent to LED case lighting: –Measures created for both 18hr and 24 hr lighting operation  Add doors to medium temperature walk-in reach-in: –Incorporated HVAC interactions for reduced case infiltration heating savings, cooling penalty –Updated measure cost –Added BPA thermal imaging pictures

Evaporator Motors – Shaded Pole to PSC  Addition to existing measure: –Existing program measure for Shaded Pole to ECM, adding capability to go from Shaded pole to PSC  Measure: –Remove shaded pole evaporator fan motors and install permanent split capacitor motors in display cases or walk-in cases.

Evaporator Motors – Shaded Pole to PSC  Application: –PSC motors are used in high moisture environments where the motor is exposed to condensation. –Typical applications: low temperature walk-ins, display cases with misters

5 Evaporator Motors - summary Note: PSC savings are 88% of ECM savings for display cases, and 71% for Walk-ins

Evaporator Motors – PSC vs ECM  Question: What percent of rebates will be PSC?  California Program 2007 results: –8,553 ECM motors rebated –278 PSC motors rebated –3% of all rebated fans were PSC

Add Doors to Med. Temp. Walk-in Reach-in  Measure: –Retrofit existing medium temperature open walk-in reach-in case with a medium temperature reach-in door.  Base case: –Medium temperature open walk-in reach-in case T8 lighting Shaded Pole Fans  Proposed case: –Medium temperature reach-in door T8 lighting Frame heating No door anti-sweat heaters –Existing case evaporator coils, fans, and lighting will be removed

8  Base Case: Medium temperature open walk-in reach-in case  Proposed Case: Medium temperature reach-in door Add Doors to Med. Temp. Walk-in Reach-in

Thermal Imaging of Open Cases

Add Doors to Med. Temp. Walk-in Reach-in HVAC interactions included

Case Lighting - T8/T12 to LED  Measure –Remove linear fluorescent display case lighting and install LED lighting or install LED lighting in new display cases.  Base case –T8 or T12 lamps and electronic ballasts  Proposed case –LED lighting system –Power source should be located outside of the refrigerated space  Existing program measure only applies to low temperature retrofits. This allows the conversion of medium temperature and new cases

13 Case Lighting - T8/T12 to LED (18 hours) Input for B/C calculator for New Measure cost is $99/ln ft in 2008 Dollars

14 Case Lighting - T8/T12 to LED (24 hours) Savings increased by 33%, compared to 18 hour operation, Life reduction of 25% Input for B/C calculator for New Measure cost is $99/ln ft in 2008 Dollars
