11 D.Discovery of DNA Structure 1.In the early 1950’s British scientist Rosalind Franklin discovered the helical structure of DNA using x-ray diffraction 2.In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick (using Franklin’s images) developed the double helix model for DNA and won the Nobel Prize

20 II. RNA: The Other Nucleic Acid What does RNA stand for? Ribonucleic Acid  Differences between DNA and RNA 1.RNA contains ribose instead of deoxyribose. 2.RNA can be in single-stranded or double-stranded forms. 3.RNA is found in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. DNA is only in the nucleus.
