2 What is Spelling City? An interactive educational site used to help children of all ages improve their spelling skills and expand their vocabulary. Widely used by teachers and parents to teach students how to spell by creating and saving individual and unique spelling lists. Well rounded spelling program that includes comprehension practice

3 How Did It Start? SpellingCity was created by a group of parents who felt there was a need to create a useful educational site. Designs started in 2005, but the site went live in January 2007.

4 How Is It Being Used? Spelling practice at home and at school Handouts as supplement Interactive fun/learning Workstations or “center time” Replacing the paper and pencil method Parent/Teacher communication Handwriting

7 Reminder…. Lists can include: Countries, states, capital cities Days of the week, months of the year All animals Contractions (don’t, can’t, won’t)

8 Reminder… Lists can not include: Non-capital cities, rivers, mountains or other elements of geography Profanity Proper nouns Abbreviations (Mrs., St., Dr., etc.)

9 Reminder… SpellingCity only includes one use for each spelling of each word. Examples: –mayflower (sentence is about a flower, not a historic ship) –Turkey (sentence is about the country, not the bird) –May (the month, not the verb)

10 How To Get Started Go to www.spellingcity.com www.spellingcity.com Sign in or create a username and password Click on the teacher tab, create your list(s), save and you’re ready to go!
