Mechanical Engineering GRADUATION PROJECT: 11 th GRADE REQUIREMENT By Tim Rutledge

Nature of work Duties They have to direct the manufacturing process for a product/device Test design and analyze data. Must change designs whenever needed They must be able to test prototypes of their designs Uses computer to design things. Analyze problems and look for mechanical solutions

Education and Training needed Most jobs need a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology. Courses involve mathematics, sciences and design. Programs normally last 4-5 years internships and co-ops are a good idea to gain experience. ABET-accredited program are college programs which employers most likely go to hire Mechanical Engineers, so it is a good Idea to get into one of these if you plan on getting a job as a Mechanical Engineer

Other Qualifications necessary The following skills are very important Creativity. Listening skills. Math skills. Mechanical skills. Problem-solving skills. Another skill that might be very helpful is being good with computers. To become a professional engineer, you need the following Completed ABET-accredited engineering program 4 years of work experience Must pass a state exam. Some states require engineers to continue their education to renew their license every year

Job outlook and future prospects As show from the graph from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, The estimated growth is 5% This is less then the average, of 11% The rates varies from industry to industry Mechanical engineers are needed a lot of the time in newer technology innovations Advancements in Nanotechnology might also bring a increase in jobs for Mechanical engineers

Potential earnings now and in future $48,130 is the Median annual earning for mechanical engineers in May 2008 (according to a document from Penn State) $80,580 is the median annual wage for mechanical engineers in May 2012 This is slightly lower then the average wage for all Engineering fields ($86,200) Low 10% earn about $52,030 or less Top 10% earn about $121,530 or more
