2 Curriculum overview GEOGRAPHY ARCHAEOLOGY/EARLY HUMANS ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA ANCIENT EGYPT ANCIENT INDIA ANCIENT CHINA ANCIENT GREECE ANCIENT ROME ANCIENT AMERICAS THE MIDDLE AGES THE RENAISSANCE "History is for human self- knowledge... the only clue to what man can do is what man has done. 3 What to expect in this class PROJECTS The students will be involved in a variety of individual and group projects throughout the year that will require the use of a variety of research tools. ASSESSMENTS Throughout the year students will have assessments (tests/quizzes). These assessments are common throughout sixth grade and are created by the collaboration of the sixth grade teachers. LEARNING USING A VARIETY OF MATERIALS Textbooks, library books, computer/internet research, maps, video clips, personal knowledge. HOMEWORK Yes, there will be homework. Homework will depend on what is accomplished in class, as certain assignments may need to be finished at home. Along with that, you will have projects that will need to be finished at home as well. GRADING POLICY 80% Assessments 20% Classwork/Homework SUPPLIES Please have a One (1) Subject Spiral or Composition Notebook and a box of color pencils.

4 INFORMATION FOR TEAM 6C All students have World History 7 th period. Students will rotate between 3 different teachers Mrs. Pinkwasser Mrs. Allison Ms. Harris

6 CONTINUUM OF COMPLEXITY Harder tasks fatigue the brain, more complex tasks engage the brain. WAYS TASKS MAY BE ADJUSTED FOR COMPLEXITY: Degree of assistance and support Complexity of process Degree of structure Complexity of product Rate of instructional pacing Complexity of thinking skills Concrete to more abstract Quantity of resources Background knowledge WHAT DOES ALL THIS EVEN MEAN??? During the school year, the students in 7 th period World History will be given opportunities to highlight their learning in a variety of ways, using a variety of tools and resources of their choosing. The goal isn’t to make assignments harder, rather, the goal is to encourage students to push to higher levels of understanding.
