Suffering Before Glory

2 Introduction The Jews viewed the Messiah as a glorious earthly king They were blinded to Him being a suffering savior Before He ascended to eternal glory, Jesus suffered as servant and savior As Christians, we desire glory but first we must also suffer like Him as we serve God Beware of all who deny suffering before glory

3 Suffering Before Glory 1.Jesus’ suffering before glory foretold 2.Jesus’ suffering before glory fulfilled 3.Our suffering before glory revealed

4 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Luk 24:25 And He said to them, "O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Luk 24:26 "Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?" Luk 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

5 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Isa 53:1 Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? Isa 53:2 For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, And like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we should look upon Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.

6 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Isa 53:3 He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Isa 53:4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted.

7 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Isa 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. Isa 53:6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.

8 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Isa 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth. Isa 53:8 By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off out of the land of the living For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?

9 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Isa 53:9 His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

10 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet." Psa 110:2 The LORD will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, "Rule in the midst of Your enemies."

11 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Foretold Psa 110:3 Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power; In holy array, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew. Psa 110:4 The LORD has sworn and will not change His mind, "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek."

12 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Fulfilled Joh 12:23 And Jesus *answered them, saying, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Joh 12:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Joh 12:25 "He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.

13 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Fulfilled Joh 12:26 "If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. Joh 12:27 "Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

14 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Fulfilled Joh 12:28 "Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came out of heaven: "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again."

15 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Fulfilled Php 2:5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, Php 2:6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, Php 2:7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

16 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Fulfilled Php 2:8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Php 2:9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

17 Jesus’ Suffering Before Glory Fulfilled Php 2:10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, Php 2:11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

18 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed Joh 15:18 "If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. Joh 15:19 "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.

19 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed Joh 15:20 "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. Joh 15:21 "But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me.

20 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 2:18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. 1Pe 2:19 For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly.

21 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 2:20 For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. 1Pe 2:21 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,

22 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 2:22 WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH; 1Pe 2:23 and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;

23 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 2:24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. 1Pe 2:25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

24 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 4:12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 1Pe 4:13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.

25 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 4:14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 1Pe 4:15 Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;

26 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 4:16 but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name. 1Pe 4:17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

27 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed 1Pe 4:18 AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER? 1Pe 4:19 Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

28 Our Suffering Before Glory Revealed Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, Rom 8:17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Rom 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
