“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
for yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen

& the evil one.

9. 1.1 Temptation and Testing
‘Tempt’ comes from the
Greek (‘peirazein’) which
could also mean ‘testing’.
Purpose of ‘tempt’ is
to ‘sin’ and the purpose
of ‘test’ is ‘righteousness’
(Read James 1:3, 12).

12. 1.2 God Tests, Not Tempt
James 1:13
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
God does not
tempt but allows
us to be “tested”
so we will know
ourselves.

us to try to get us to
sin against God and
His word.
