40 福建师大附中 王焕蒲 3.Introduction of Nelson Mandela ○ Nelson Mandela, born on July 18,1918, is the first black president of South Africa. He studied law after he entered university. In 1944 he formed the ANC Youth League. Then in 1952 he set up a law office to help poor black people. Because of his fight against the government and anti-black laws, he was sentenced to five years hard labour. Fighters from ANC began to blow up buildings in 1963 and he was sentenced to life imprisonment on Robben Island. Twenty – seven years later, he was freed by the white government. In 1993 he was made president of South Africa and the government by and for the black was finally set up. Nelson Mandela was a great man. Nelson Mandela was a great man.
