12 Math Addition and subtraction facts to 18 Regrouping with addition and subtraction up to 3 place values Time to 5 minutes Making change with money and adding it to a dollar Geometry: shapes, solid figures, symmetry, congruent figures We are focusing on practical application Guided Math Math stations Work in pairs, individually, and/or groups Computers, calculators, cubes, dice, rulers, flash cards, pattern blocks, etc. Talk, represent, and write about math

14 Parent Tips With Math… Believe that your child can successfully learn mathematics Expect your child to work hard to learn mathematics Have your child explain the problem and his-her thinking out loud and show all work Practice basic addition and subtraction facts daily Help your child connect math with daily life and point out your own activities that involve math Keep open communication between school and home

15 Science and Social Studies Inquiry, observe, predict, measure, etc Life cycles of plants and animals Be a scientist Earth Science Physical Science Social Studies: Communities and building good citizens Citizenship in the classroom and throughout the building daily

19 Parent Involvement Support and reinforce your child’s good study habits Review your child’s homework and test results Become a member of our school’s PTO Volunteer in the classroom, chaperone a field trip, assist with a special project or at a special event Attend parent gatherings, meetings, and trainings Come to school activities and special events

20 Steps for success at home Read with your child at least 15 minutes a day and talk about what you read Check your child’s backpack daily Practice math facts daily Talk about the day with your child Have your child complete any homework that comes home and return to school Limit television, video games, and computer time Come to school everyday on time Get lots of rest and eat breakfast.
