2 Eligibility  Title 1 Schools K-12 SDUSD with a Free and Reduced Lunch (FRL) ranking 75% or greater  84 sites were eligible in the 2014-2015 school year  2 year grant  1.5 million dollars each year  25 sites applied-22 sites selected

3 Why Arts Integration  Arts Education develops skills in communication, collaboration, perseverance, and concentration, as well as setting achieving goals; it fosters individual and collective creativity and enhances understanding of and respect for others;  The arts have the power to engage children and give them multiple modes of learning. The benefits of the arts are inclusive of all students, although they can be the greatest for students who are challenged economically or have special needs;  Through art courses, we can help children stay in school and learn a variety of skills and habits they need in life;  In an era of increasing global competitiveness, which rewards progress and discovery, our economy requires ingenuity and innovation;  Developing the skills of the imagination provides students with the workforce skills to be innovative and creative-skills essential to a knowledge based economy.

4 Why  There is strong evidence that educational strategies that include the arts can advance Title 1 goals aligned with sites Single Site Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).  Integrated art forms of arts education will be implemented to help transform the learning environment in 22 schools by fostering student engagement, increasing attendance and motivation to learn, and improving school culture and climate.

5 Goals of Art Integration It’s a Partnership  Teaching Artists and Classroom Teachers will learn new strategies to enhance the core content through the arts  Teaching Artist and Classroom Teachers will work in concert to create lessons that are aligned with the Common Core and the National Arts Standards  Classroom Teachers, with the assistance of the teaching artist, will explore ways the arts enable students with a variety of learning styles to flourish  Artist will work with teachers and students to learn more about the arts as well as utilize art vocabulary  Teachers and students will become arts integration researchers  Classroom Teacher always present and in-charge of classroom discipline

6 Participating Schools  Field trips, performances and assemblies should be connected to your focus  Local arts education and cultural organizations  Art supplies  Professional Development  School events to deepen the engagement of parents and community members  Evaluator to gauge our success and monitor effectiveness  Site Walk-throughs looking for evidence of art integration and student engagement

7 Timeline Professional Development and Monitoring April 2015-July 2016  Professional Development will support teachers and teaching artist in broadening their pedagogy to include arts integration.  Researched Based Methodologies  Common Core and National Arts Standards  Spring- 6 schools will implement art integration, ongoing observations and documentation  Summer 2015- 16 schools will attend Boot-Camp  Fall 2015- All schools will implement art integration, ongoing observations and documentation  Winter 2016- Professional Development follow-up/ Monitor the progress, Data collection  Spring 2016- Celebration of Learning: Curriculum Faire, Evaluation of our work, set goals, Boot-Camp planning for 2016-2017 school year  Summer 2016- Evaluation of our work, set goals, Boot-Camp planning for 2016-2017 school year
