1 MSS & AMS Name and configure MIDI controllers, devices and sound modules. Control their routing to Pro Tools MSS - Configurations can be imported or exported. AMS - broadcasted to any applications that support Apple’s Core MIDI.

3 Track Abilities MIDI & Instrument Record all types of MIDI messages as well as to route a MIDI signal from a controller or pre- recorded MIDI file to a MIDI instrument. Audio, Aux & Instr. 4 Specific MIDI Routing 1. MIDI Messages are generated from a MIDI controller. 2. MIDI signal enters the MIDI interface 3. MIDI signal routed from MIDI interface to MIDI or Instr. track (MIDI input selector). 4. MIDI signal is recorded through the MIDI instrument (MIDI output selector-external synth. or virtual instr.).

6 Mix Window Track Width Globally change the width of the channel strips from the normal default to a much narrower size. This allows you to view more tracks simultaneously in the Mix window = less scrolling view > narrow mix or… Command+option+M

8 Hardware Buffer Size Controls the number of samples processed at once by our computer’s CPU for host based tasks. = RTAS Low setting = reduce monitoring latency, use when recording live input. High setting = more audio processing tasks, mixing and using RTAS plug-ins.

9 RTAS Processors Determines the number of processors in your computer that are allocated to RTAS plug-in processing. Higher # of processors reserves more CPU processing for RTAS plug-in processing (with a high CPU usage limit). Lower # of processor reserves more CPU processing for automation, screen redraws and video playback, or other applications.

10 CPU Usage Limit Controls the percentage of CPU resources allocated to P.T. host processing tasks. Lower limit useful for processing-intensive tasks, or slow system response. Higher limit allows foro more processing power to P.T. or playing back a large sessions. Single processor: 85%-99% Half of available processors allocated to RTAS processing 60-70%

11 RTAS Engine/Error Suppression 1. Continue playing and recording through any RTAS errors encountered. 2. Minimize additional latency caused by suppressing RTAS errors during playback and recording. Use only if experiencing frequent RTAS errors = degradation in audio quality Disable RTAS error suppression during a final mix = pops & clicks, yikes!!!

12 DAE Playback Buffer Size Amount of memory allocated to buffering audio being read from disk on your drive(s). Low setting = improve system responsiveness, less reliable recording. High setting = improve performance for high track counts, slow hard drives, can also increase lag time initiating playback or recording. Ideal size: 1500MS; Level 2

13 Cache Size Amount of memory DAE allocates to pre- buffer audio for playback and looping when using Elastic Audio Low setting - free up memory for other system tasks, decrease in Elastic Audio performance. High setting - improves Elastic Audio features, it also reduces the amount of memory available for other systems tasks. Ideal size: Normal

14 Plug-In Streaming Buffer Size Structure Plug-In Only Amount of memory DAE allocates for streaming playback from disk when disk streaming is activated in Structure’s engine settings page. Optimum setting: 250MS; Level 2

15 Optimize the Streaming Buffer Size Structure plug-in only Pro Tools automatically optimizes the size of the Plug-In Streaming Buffer to facilitate disk access from both P.T. and Structure. This is useful when you are playing back samples stored on the same drive that contains audio for your session.
