3 What forms does Globalization take on? A non-governmental organization (NGO) is an organization that is neither a part of a government nor a conventional for-profit business. Usually set up by ordinary citizens, NGOs may be funded by governments, foundations, businesses, or private persons. An intergovernmental organization (or international governmental organization; IGO) is an organization composed primarily of sovereign states (referred to as member states), or of other intergovernmental organizations.

Information and communications technology (ICT) or information technology (IT), provide unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers, and the companies that provide the service. 6 Globalization is deeply controversial PROS: Proponents of globalization argue that it allows poor countries and their citizens to develop economically and raise their standards of living. ( connect to wider markets, increase personal/national income, access to diverse non local foods) CONS: Opponents of globalization claim that the creation of an unfettered international free market has benefited multinational corporations in the Western world at the expense of local enterprises, local cultures, and common people. ( child labour, sweat shop exploitation, outsourcing jobs, international black markets )

Movement of people: immigration, westernization cultural diffusion, disease spread Environmental Challenges: climate change, resource consumption, travel Conflict: Ideologies and natural resource control

8 Globalization: Can be broken down into the 3 C’s: Connection: Transportation, Communications, migration & spread of material and non material culture. Competition: Economic growth/decline, natural resource exploitation, multinationals & terrorism. Cooperation: International Aid, Trade agreements
