2 Definition Essay Objective: To jigsaw the reading of multiple definition essays and recognize the essential elements of an effective definition essay by organizing examples onto a graphic organizer independently and through group discussion

3 Definition Essay and Word Assignment Read the assignment for the definition essay Annotate the assignment for important requirements and ask two questions you may have? – Even if you think you know the answer, write two questions.

5 Read and Take Notes Read your definition essay from start to finish Complete your graphic organizer with implicit or explicit examples Clarification for elements of a definition essay can be found on pages 508-513

6 Group Discussion Share your findings and take notes – What is similar? – What is different? – What is true for ALL definition essays? – What can be changed?
