2 About the Position Western Sydney Community Forum – Peak Body for Community Orgs in Western Sydney Funded by FaCS – Sector Facilitation for Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) in SWS. Projects include: –SHS Wiki –Temporary Accommodation Triage Project –Real Estate Engagement Project

3 Background to the Project Consultations with Specialist Homelessness Services –Lack of exit points (both for crisis and transitional) –Issues with Real Estate Agents Services in Macarthur interested in developing relationships with Real Estate Agents

4 The Real Estate Engagement Concept AIM: Engage proactively with real estate agents to address the lack of exit points from SHS and supporting tenants to prevent movement into SHS Maximising client outcomes through positive relationships with Real Estate Agents Engagement Information Easy referrals to support services Case Support

5 Project Implementation Working party with key stakeholders –Specialist Homelessness Services –Housing NSW –Centrelink –Family and Community Services –Industry experts - Former Real Estate Agent, Private Rental Brokerage Specialist (Housing NSW) Engaging the experts –DVSWSS

7 What we have learnt so far Key stakeholders from a number of groups are required to address the issue Insider knowledge is key Real Estate Sector is often unaware of support services/initiatives and what they offer A “carrot” is required to develop the relationship
