FIRST READING Jer 20:7-9 You duped me, O LORD, and I let myself be duped; you were too strong for me, and you triumphed. All the day I am an object of laughter; everyone mocks me. Whenever I speak, I must cry out, violence and outrage is my message; the word of the LORD has brought me derision and reproach all the day.

I say to myself, I will not mention him, I will speak in his name no more. But then it becomes like fire burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones; I grow weary holding it in, I cannot endure it.

PSALM Ps 63:2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9 R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

O God, you are my God whom I seek; for you my flesh pines and my soul thirsts like the earth, parched, lifeless and without water. R. Lord let Your mercy be on us As we place our trust in You.

Thus have I gazed toward you in the sanctuary to see your power and your glory, For your kindness is a greater good than life; my lips shall glorify you. R. Lord let Your mercy be on us As we place our trust in You.

Thus will I bless you while I live; lifting up my hands, I will call upon your name. As with the riches of a banquet shall my soul be satisfied, and with exultant lips my mouth shall praise you. R. Lord let Your mercy be on us As we place our trust in You.

You are my help, and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy. My soul clings fast to you; your right hand upholds me. R. Lord let Your mercy be on us As we place our trust in You.

SECOND READING Rom 12:1-2 I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship. Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.

GOSPEL Mt 16:21-27 Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised. Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him, “God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.”

He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.” Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,

but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay all according to his conduct.”

PROFESSION OF FAITH We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

Begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven: (BOW HEAD) By the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered died and was buried.

On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures, he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE WONDERFUL CROSS MATT REDMAN When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of Glory died My richest gain I count but loss And pour contempt on all my pride

See from his head, his hands, his feet sorrow and love flow mingled down Did e'r such love and sorrow meet or thorns compose so rich a crown

Oh the wonderful Cross, Oh the wonderful Cross Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live

Oh the wonderful Cross, Oh the Wonderful Cross All who gather here by grace draw near and bless your name

Were the whole realm of nature mine That were an offering far too small Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all

Oh the wonderful Cross, Oh the wonderful Cross Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live

Oh the wonderful Cross, Oh the Wonderful Cross All who gather here by grace draw near and bless your name

ALIVE AGAIN MATT MAHER I woke up in darkness, surrounded by silence Oh where, where have I gone?

I woke to reality losing its grip on me Oh where, where have I gone?

'Cause I can see the light before I see the sunrise

You called and You shouted, broke through my deafness Now I'm breathing in and breathing out, I'm alive again

You shattered my darkness, washed away my blindness Now I'm breathing in and breathing out, I'm alive again

Late have I loved You, You waited for me, I searched for You What took me so long? I was looking outside as if Love would ever want to hide I'm finding I was wrong

'Cause I feel the wind before it hits my skin

You called and You shouted, broke through my deafness Now I'm breathing in and breathing out, I'm alive again

You shattered my darkness, washed away my blindness Now I'm breathing in and breathing out, I'm alive again

'Cause I want You, yes, I want You, I need You, and I'll do Whatever I have to just to get through 'Cause I love You, yeah, I love You
