18 When you use the present tense you will use verb or the verb + s to indicate the present tense depending on the pronoun being used in the sentence. Pronouns I/You/W/They will use the verb only Pronouns He/She/It will use the verb + s For example: I cook on Monday. She cooks on Tuesday

19 There are always exceptions in the English language. When a word ends in a consonant + “y” you will drop the “y” and add “ies” for the pronouns he/she/it. For pronouns I/We/They you will use the verb by itself in the simple present tense. For example: They study everydayShe studies everyday When a word ends in a vowel + “y” you simply add s to verb He/She/It and use the regular simple present for pronouns I/We/They. For example They play in the park everyday. He plays in the park everyday.

20 The simple present tense shows action that is happening right now. This will use the infinitive form of the verb. For example: “Sarah is working on her homework.” This shows that the action is taking place now. Reshow the video

21 Present Tense Practice Hi. My name (be) _______ Albert. My friends (call) _______ me Al. You can call me Al if you (like) _______. I (want) to tell you about a problem I (have) _______. His name (be) _______ Joe, but everybody (call) _______ him Joey. Joey and I have been friends for a long time. That's the problem. Joey (like) _______ to smoke. He (say) _______ he (do, not) _______ _______, but I (know) _______ he (do) _______. He (try) ______ to hide it from me, but I (see) ______ him do it sometimes. When I see him do it, he just (laugh) _______ and (walk) _______ away. Now, Joey (smoke) _______ every day. When he (come) _______ over to my house, he (always, bring) _______ _______ his cigarettes with him. He (keep) _______ them in his pocket. He (think) _______ they are cool. 22 Present progressive tense indicates ongoing action of something that is happening now When using pronouns you use am, are and is as following: Pronoun I you will use am + verb + ing Pronoun You/We/They you will use are + verb + ing Pronoun He/She/IT you will use is + verb+ ing Sometimes you must double the last letter in the word before you add ‘ing”. The rule for doubling is when a one-syllable verb ends with consonant-vowel-consonant, the final consonant is doubled. As a normal rule of thumb if the verb is longer than one syllable the final consonant is doubled. Never double the letters when words end with h,w,x, and y.
