7 Key points Asbestos surveys required for all STFC sites, re-surveyed and checked annually. Site Asbestos Registers required for all STFC sites detailing location and containment of asbestos – including experimental equipment. STFC, and HSE recommended, policy is not to remove asbestos unnecessarily as removing it can be more dangerous than leaving it in place and managing it in situ.

Management & staff to inform ACO & SHE Group where unlabelled/unmarked or loose/unsealed asbestos found or suspected. Those managing work on buildings, Building Work Controllers, must consult site asbestos register prior to undertaking work – informing staff & contractors of asbestos locations.
