2 Find and Replace, Chapter 92 What Is Find and Replace?  When you need to find a word, a phrase, a type of punctuation, anything in a long document, you can use the Find feature.  If you need to make changes, you can do it easily with the Find and Replace command.  The Replace command finds text and formatting easily and replaces it automatically with a specific alternative.

3 Find and Replace, Chapter 93 The Find Command Can Locate Text  You can find text easily in a document using one of two methods:  Select the Edit Menu, and then Find.  Press CTRL/F.  The Find command can locate whole words, words that sound alike, font and paragraph formatting, and special characters.  You can search only portions of a document or an entire document.  You can select the direction in which you wish your search to go.

4 4 Using the Find Feature If the Find dialog box blocks too much of the screen, you can grab it by the title bar and drag it to another location.

5 Find and Replace, Chapter 95 Using Criteria With the Find Command  There are options to be used in locating words or phrases that meet specific criteria.  Match Case will locate text that matches the case of text keyed in the Find What text box.

6 Find and Replace, Chapter 96 Using Criteria With the Find Command (Continued)  To specify upper case, you would perform the following steps:  Type the word you wish to find in the proper case.  Click on the More button at the bottom of the Find screen.  Select the Search option to “Match Case.”  Click the arrow next to All to select the direction of the search by selecting either Down, Up, or All.

7 Find and Replace, Chapter 97 Using Criteria With the Find Command (Continued) 1.Clicking the More button opens up this dialog box. 2.Click match case. 3.Select the direction of the search by choosing Up from the drop-down list to reverse the search direction.

8 Find and Replace, Chapter 98 Find Text Using Whole Words Only Option  Find Whole Words Only is also a way to narrow a search criteria.  With this search, it will it will locate separate words but not characters embedded in other words.  For example, when you select this option, it will match the word travel but not traveller.

10 Find and Replace, Chapter 910 Find Text Using the Wildcard Option  The Use Wildcard option will search for text strings using special search operators.  A wildcard is a symbol that stands for missing or unknown text.  The wildcard, “?” finds any character.  “b?te” would find the words “bite” and “byte.”

12 Find and Replace, Chapter 912 Find Text Using the Sounds Like Option  Use the “Sounds Like Option” for similar spelling of words, or if you can’t remember how to spell a word.  When you find the word, you can stop the search process temporarily to edit your document.  Continue the search when you finish editing by clicking the scroll buttons at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar.

13 Find and Replace, Chapter 913 Find Text Using the Sounds Like Option (Continued) Select the “Sounds Like” Option for words you can’t spell or words that sound similar to other words.

15 Find and Replace, Chapter 915 Find Formatted Text  In addition to locating words and phrases, the Find command can search for text that is formatted.  The formatting can include character formatting, such as bold and italic, and paragraph formatting, such as alignment and line spacing.

18 Find and Replace, Chapter 918 Find and Replacing Text  The Replace command searches for specified text or formatting and replaces it with your specified alternative.  You can replace all instances of text or formatting at once or you can find and confirm each replacement.  Select Replace by:  Selecting Replace from the Edit Menu.  Typing CTRL/H

19 Find and Replace, Chapter 919 Find and Replacing Text (Continued) Type Travel Agency in the Find What Dialog Box and press the Tab key to move to the Replace With Dialog Box. Type Travel for the text to be replaced.

20 Find and Replace, Chapter 920 Replace Text Using Replace All  The Replace All option replaces all occurrences of text or formatting in a document without confirmation.

21 Find and Replace, Chapter 921 Delete Text with Replace  You can use the Replace command to delete text automatically.  Key the text to be deleted in the Find What text box and leave the Replace With text box blank.  You can find and delete text with confirmation using the Find Next option or without confirmation using the Replace All option.

22 Find and Replace, Chapter 922 Finding and Replacing Special Characters  Find and Replace features can find special characters including paragraph marks and tab characters.  Special characters are represented by codes that you can key or choose from the Special drop- down list.  Click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar to display special characters in the document.

23 Find and Replace, Chapter 923 Finding and Replacing Special Characters (Continued) Click the Special button and choose Paragraph Mark. A code <^p) is inserted in the Find What text box. Add two additional paragraph mark codes to search for three consecutive paragraph marks. Replace with two paragraph marks.

24 Find and Replace, Chapter 924 Finding and Replacing Formatting  Word can search for and replace both character and paragraph formatting.  You can specify character or paragraph formatting by:  Clicking the Format button in the Find and Replace dialog box  Using keyboard shortcuts  Using toolbar options

25 Find and Replace, Chapter 925 Finding and Replacing Formatting (Continued) If you wish to replace text with no formatting codes, press the No Formatting Button.

26 Find and Replace, Chapter 926 Find and Replace Paragraph Formatting From the Find/Replace option, find ^p^p, and clear existing format. In the Replace box, select Format, and Paragraph.

27 Find and Replace, Chapter 927 Find and Replace Paragraph Formatting From the Find/Replace option, find ^p^p, and clear existing format. In the Replace box, select Format, and Paragraph. Under Special, select First Line in the drop-down options. In the By dialog box, type 0.5” and include the quotation mark.
