3 At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program  In 1994, it began as a project to provide snacks to children ages 13 to 18.  In 1998, CACFP began reimbursing snacks in afterschool programs.  In 2000, a project was introduced to allow a reimbursable meal in afterschool programs in six states.  In 2010, The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act expanded meal reimbursement in all States.

4 Who can participate?  Students Afterschool Groups  Tutoring  Enrichment  Club Meetings  Academic Teams  Athletes can participate

5 Afterschool in Alabama  119,833 kids participate in afterschool programs.  Programs exist in your schools that engage students in enriching, educational, and athletic activities.  However, most of the programs do not have funding to provide food for the students.

6 You are…  Providing a much needed service to your community.  Giving children a safe place to go after school.  Aiding them with homework and tutorial opportunities.  Allowing them time to join their friends in physical, educational, and social activities.

7 This program… provides a snack, a supper, or both for those children through the age of 18 in your already existing programs.

8 At-Risk Application Process  1. Be area eligible based on school data.  2. Attend training for new sponsors:  December 3,2014  February 11,2015  3. Submit application documents:  Appeal Procedure Notification  Certification Sheet  Permanent Agreement  Menus  4. Submit on-line application.  5. Begin serving meals/snacks to children.

9 Rates  Supper $2.98 + $0.2475 cash-in-lieu  Snack $0.82

10 What if my program is not eligible?  Outside School Hours  For sponsors who are not area eligible based on school data  Children through age 12  Same application process, except must complete Income Eligibility Form for each child
