2 Careers in Health Care Do I have a place in a health science career? Every hospital, large or small, has an organizational structure that allows for the efficient management of departments.Why is it important for Health Care Facilities to develop and organizational structure?The structure is designed to ensure that health care workers are focused on their specific roles and scope of practice
3 Why is Organizational Structure Important? Facilitates (simplifies) the understanding of the hospital’s chain of command.Shows which individual or department is accountable for each area of the hospital.The complexity (complication) of organizational structure depends on size of healthcare facility; large acute care hospitals have complicated structures, whereas, the smaller institutions have a much simpler organizational structure.Grouping hospital departments. Each hospital department performs specific functions, departments are generally grouped according to similarity of duties in order to promote efficiency of the healthcare facility.

Includes the following departments:Medical Laboratory (MT) -- studies body tissues to determine abnormalities.Imaging a. studies images of body parts to determine lesions and abnormalities. Includes Diagnostic Radiology, MRI, CT, Ultra Sound.Emergency Medicine -- provides emergency diagnoses and treatment

Support Services-provides support to entire hospital.Central Supply-in charge of ordering, receiving, stocking and distributing all equipment and supplies used by healthcare facility, sterilizes instruments and supplies, cleans and maintains hospital linen and patient gowns.Biomedical Technology-designs and build biomedical equipment (engineers) by diagnosing and repairing defective equipment (biomedical technicians) and also provides preventative maintenance to all hospital equipment.Housekeeping and Maintenance-maintains a safe clean environment by cleaners, electricians, carpenters, and gardeners.
