1 HISTORY OF GERMAN ANTHEM
The "Deutschlandlied" ("Song of Germany'', or "The Song of the Germans"), has been used wholly or partially as the national anthem of Germany since 1922. Since World War 2 and the fall of Nazi Germany, only the third stanza has been used as the national anthem.

The music was written by Joseph Haydn in 1797 as an anthem for the birthday of the Austrian Emperor Francis II of the Holy Roman Empire. Joseph Haydn (1732 – 1809) Franz II. (1768 – 1835)

In 1841, the German linguist and poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben wrote the lyrics of "Das Lied der Deutschen" to Haydn's melody, lyrics that were considered revolutionary at the time.

5 NATIONAL HOLIDAY After World War II., there was no national holiday in Germany. In GDR it became October 7th, the day of ist proclamation in 1949. In FRG, it became June 17th since 1954 to remind of the national uprising in GDR against the regime. Since reunification in 1990, October 3rd became the new national holiday of Germany.
